The Chauvenet-Chopin 2006 Chambolle-Musigny (from an unpropitious site near the route nationale) is rather sour cherry- and cranberry-tart, with undertones of concentrated herbal and cherry pit bitterness pulling in a slightly tight, austere direction. Overtones of truffle and quarry dust add some fascination. This may benefit from a couple of years in bottle, but I would be cautious and purchase it only if one appreciates Pinot in a high-pitched and high-acid mode. Hubert Chauvenet professed having been more active than normal in 2006 with punch-downs and pump-overs, in order to compensate for paucity of material, and a certain undertone of bitterness in a few of his lighter-weight 2006s may be explicable on that account.Imported by Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel.
