Voerzio's flamboyant 1990 Barbera d'Alba-Vignasse could easily compete with the terrific Barberas produced by Elio Altare. Almost opaque dark ruby/purple in color, the wine reveals a huge smoky, oaky, richly fruity nose, gobs of lusty, voluptuous fruit, and a long, spicy, rich finish. There is good acidity, as well as wonderful sweetness and length that suggest this wine should continue to drink beautifully for 5-10 years.
It has been a number of years since I have tasted this producer's wines, but I was immensely impressed with his current offerings.
