The 2004 Pinot Noir / Touriga Nacional may be the most unusual grape combination I saw in Portuguese wines. It works fairly well. The wine has nice structure and some elegance. There are light, red fruity notes up front, and it has the capacity to improve in the cellar in the short term. It is not terribly distinguished, but not just an unusual experiment, either. Drink now-2010.This producer turns out a bevy of value-priced wines, both as single varietals and in somewhat unusual combinations (like Pinot Noir/Touriga Nacional). None are particularly distinguished, but they have some structure and the price is usually right. Pinot Noir and Touriga Nacional? The owner explains it this way: “We look for complementary combinations, and in this particular case, by marrying the Pinot Noir with the Touriga Nacional, the velvet and smoothness of the Pinot softened the tannins of Touriga and on the other hand the Touriga Nacional contributed with a good structure, body and colour to the blend.”Importers: Tri-Vin Imports, Mt.
