A tiny production of 600 cases and lofty alcohol of 15.3% characterize this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that was aged in 100% new oak (80% French and 20% American) for 28 months. One of the finest Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignons, the 2007 boasts an inky/purple color as well as copious notes of graphite, creme de cassis, charcoal, damp earth and spring flowers. Rich, opulent, luxuriously viscous and concentrated, with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol as well as a fabulously long finish, it can be drunk now if you don’t mind committing infanticide, but it has 25-30+ years of aging potential. It should be a future legend from the Monte Rosso Vineyard. Anticipated Maturity: now-2040.

The absolutely spectacular 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new French oak. This sensational effort is one of the finest Cabernets made at Martini over the last few decades. It boasts a dense blue/purple hue along with an exceptional perfume of scorched earth/charcoal embers intermixed with creme de cassis, black cherries and dusty, loamy soil undertones. There is a distinctive earthiness to this cuvee as well as fabulously extracted fruit notes, full-bodied power and a rich finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. This wine, like so many 2007s, has sweet tannins and given its high glycerin content (no doubt from the 15.2% alcohol), it is drinkable already, but its best years are still ahead. Kudos to the Louis M. Martini winemaking staff. This venerable winery can trace its origins back to 1900 when Louis Martini came to the United States from Genoa, Italy. After a long, distinguished winemaking history, the family sold the winery in 2002 to the Gallo family with whom they had been close friends for decades. Today’s wines may be the finest Louis Martini offerings since the classics they made in the fifties and sixties.
