The 1994 Pinot Noir Red Hills Estate exhibits a deeper ruby color than the 1994 Oregon Pinot Noir, as well as a sweet, spicy, toasty nose with attractive black-raspberry and cherry fruit. On the attack, the wine offers fine glycerin, a sweet, creamy ripeness, and admirable balance. The wine's hallmarks are its elegance, purity of flavor, and focus. Some tannin in the finish seems more elevated than I would have suspected, and is the only reason why this wine did not receive an outstanding rating. Nevertheless, it is an approachable, medium-weight Pinot Noir for drinking over the next 5-6 years. I predict that this newcomer to the Oregon wine scene will quickly emerge as one of the star producers. The exquisite winemaking facility is state of the art, illustrative of the commitment of Californian Gary Andrus and the investment consortium behind him to produce world-class Pinot Noir from the red hills of Dundee.
