A fine effort, the 2001 Vacqueyras Vieux Clocher’s dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet aromas of black fruits, underbrush, new saddle leather, smoke, and pepper. Medium to full-bodied, deep, and tightly knit with moderate tannin in the finish, it requires 1-2 years of cellaring, and should last for 7-8.
