The 2011 Albarino begins well with an attractive, well-defined nose with hints of white peach and green apples. The palate is fresh and nicely balanced. It is not a complex Albarino, but it is clean and vibrant with pear and hints of orange peel towards the finish. That will do nicely at this price. Drink now. Martin Codax is the major co-operative of 50 growers that came together in 1986. They presently have 273 members that represent around 268 hectares of vines and have contracts with 274 small growers, which equates to 500-hectares spread over 2,000 plots. It is important that such wines reach an acceptable level, because they serve as ambassadors for the region – often the first encountered by tourists.Importer: E&J Gallo. www.gallo.com
