The 2007 Etna Rosso Santo Spirito is a marvelously complete wine. Stylistically, the Santo Spirito combines elements of the firmness of the Calderara Sottana with a bit of the sheer muscle and density found in the Guardiola. Dark cherries, flowers, licorice, herbs, spices and mint flow effortlessly from this rich, textured Etna Rosso. The Santo Spirito seems to show a touch more influence of new oak, but that is a small critique for what is truly a fascinating bottle of wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. Proprietor Marc de Grazia is one of the pioneers of the Etna. Not only was he among the first producers to recognize the value of these once-forgotten, ancient terroirs, he also was the first producer to bring attention to the specific qualities of these vineyards by bottling single-parcel Nerellos that have become reference-point wines for the Etna.
