The 2007 Finca Sandoval Cuvee TNS (available only in 1.5-liter bottles) is made up of 66% Touriga Nacional sourced from a 0.66 acre experimental plot and 34% Syrah. Touriga Nacional is the principal component of the great Vintage Ports sourced from Portugal’s Douro region. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it displays a slightly taciturn nose of black fruits, licorice, espresso, and pencil lead. Succulent, velvety-textured, and concentrated on the palate, this lengthy effort is incipiently complex requiring another 2-3 years of cellaring to fully blossom. It should drink well through 2027 if not longer.
Finca Sandoval is the Manchuela estate of distinguished journalist Victor de la Serna. Some readers may know of Senor de la Serna through his contributions to the Parker Bulletin Board where he often sets the record straight on Spanish wines.
