The limited production 1993 Carter Vineyard boasts the darkest, most saturated color of the three fine Pinot Noirs from this winery reviewed in this issue. Initially, the toasty vanillin oak suppresses the wine's fruit character, but within five minutes the wine opens to reveal gobs of black-cherry fruit. Full-bodied, with more noticeable tannin and structure, as well as greater depth of fruit, this young, promising, backward Pinot Noir should hit its peak in 12-18 months and last for 5-7 years.This is an impressive, well-made, Burgundian smelling and tasting example of Oregon Pinot Noir.This high quality, relatively new Oregon winery bottles its wines without fining or filtration.
