The dark ruby-colored, fat, soft 1997 Barbaresco exhibits succulence as well as gobs of tannin and black cherry fruit intertwined with smoke and damp foresty smells. The dark ruby-colored 1996 Barbaresco reveals a spicy, cedary, sweet nose, excellent fruit, smoky oak, grilled herbs, and meat elements. The finish is short, but it should open with time. The 1995 Barbaresco exhibits an evolved garnet color, in addition to a spicy, tobacco-tinged nose with scents of cherry jam and cigar smoke.
