The 2021 Estate Pinot Gris is savory and expressive, offering aromas of mushroom powder, apple pie, lilac and flint and opening to honeyed bass tones as it spends time in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is bursting with honeyed, nutty fruit framed by rounded acidity, and it finishes long and pleasantly grippy.

The 2019 Pinot Gris The Eyrie is scented of warm apples, citrus and exotic spices. The palate is lovely, textural and intense, with delicate flavors that gain intensity on the long, juicy finish. There's always a special quality and unique character to this Eyrie Pinot Gris.

In the past, this has been called "Pinot Gris Original Vines," but Jason Lett says, "This is the first time we are calling it 'The Eyrie.' I wanted to put a little more focus on place—I'd like this wine to be a wake-up call for people to think about Pinot Gris as a terroir wine, not just a patio sipper." Lett believes his are the oldest Pinot Gris vines in the world. The 2017 Pinot Gris The Eyrie has wonderful aromas of orange oil, tarragon and fresh herbs, wet slate and wet hay with a core of fresh orchard fruits. The medium-bodied palate is silky and perfumed with mouthwatering acidity and a whisper of texture on the finish. As always, Eyrie’s Pinot Gris is an entirely different animal than the ubiquitous leesy, peanut shell-scented versions I avoid.

The 2013 Pinot Gris Estate is from vines planted in Rolling Green Farm and Daphne Vineyard (the first plantings in the United States from four cuttings) and for the first time, the Three Sisters Vineyard. It has a well-defined bouquet with honeycomb, melted candle wax, wet wool and pear skin. The palate has a lovely, waxy texture that bears some semblances to the Northern Rh?ne. There is an undercurrent of lemongrass adding a little tang, but just like the Pinot Blanc, this is all about the textural sensation rather than out-and-out fruit flavors. Very fine.

The 2012 Pinot Gris Estate has a gram more acidity than the 2013 and a degree more alcohol at 13.8%. As such, it is more expressive on the nose with dried honey and grilled almond/smoke scents. The palate is clean and fresh with nectarine, dried quince, lemongrass and fennel, with a long and persistent finish that is very satisfying. Excellent–and a fantastic value to boot.
