A blend of 47% Catarratto, 22% Pinot Bianco, 20% Sauvignon and 11% Gewürtztraminer, the Tasca Conti d'Almerita 2020 Leone Tenuta Regaleali has exotic fruit and some soapy tones as well, with jasmine flower and honeysuckle. The wine shows a waxy texture with added glycerin to make for a creamy mouthfeel. Try it with an octopus salad.

The 2014 Leone d’Almerita Tenuta Regaleali is a terrific white wine from a great vintage in Sicily. The bouquet is soft and meaningful with rich aromas of lemon curd, honeydew melon, almond paste and Mediterranean herb. The wine shows a superior sense of texture with soft layers, crisp acidity and a creamy finish. This is a standout white wine to drink over the next three years. The blend used here is 47% Catarratto, 22% Pinot Bianco, 20% Sauvignon and 11% Gewürtztraminer.

The 2010 Leone d'Almerita is simply fabulous in this vintage, the best I can remember tasting. Layers of fruit come together beautifully on a rich, textured frame. The introduction of aromatic grapes (Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon) gives the wine lovely floral life and complexity. Its hard to believe the Leone does not undergo malolactic fermentation. In 2010 the blend is 60% Catarratto, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. From top to bottom this is an impressive set of wines from Tasca d'Almerita. The 2009 Leone d'Almerita is 80% Catarratto and 20% Chardonnay, a blend that works quite nicely. Round, harmonious and impeccably polished from start to finish, this textured white impresses for is refined personality and long, creamy finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014. The 2008 Leone d’Almerita (80% Catarratto, 20% Chardonnay) is riper and softer than the Bianco. The aromatic profile recalls Sauvignon in its bright, high-toned notes, and the finish is particularly refined. This is another pretty wine from Tasca. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012. Tasca d’Almerita is a reference-point producer in Sicily.
