The pale to medium ruby colored 2015 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard gives up scents of saline, tangerine peel, dusty earth, dried herbs, pipe tobacco and charcuterie with ripe strawberry, Earl Grey tea and black and red cherries and berries—subtle, pretty layers. Light to medium-bodied, it's silky and saline on entry, expanding into perfumed fruits and spices, with a backbone of plush, grainy tannins and very juicy acidity, finishing long, spicy and alive with energy.

Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard is very subtle on the nose, revealing gentle pomegranate and rhubarb nuances with fragrant earth and moss hints. Medium-bodied, with the fruit and earth layers tightly wound and compressed like a spring, it has a firm backbone of chewy tannins and great freshness, finishing with lingering herb and mineral notes. Give this beauty a good two years in bottle and drink it over the next eight to ten years+.

The deep ruby colored 2013 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard (50% stems and 20 months in 50% new French oak) shows the vineyard's telltale gaminess, as well as tons of salty sea breeze, ground herbs, sweet black currants and wood smoke. Big, rich, beautifully textured and voluptuous, drink it anytime over the coming decade.

Maybe the best Pinot Noir from Chad to date, the 2012 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard saw 50% stems and 20 months in 50% new French oak. It is flat-out awesome. Possessing lots of salty minerality in its black raspberry, truffle, autumn leaf and wood-smoke-scented bouquet, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, silky texture and fabulous persistence and flavor intensity that comes through on the finish. While it saw 50% stems, they're nicely integrated and work well with this cuvee.

Another effort that could use another year or two to come together, the 2011 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard has classic Pinot Noir flair with its strawberry and crushed berry fruit, spice and earth-driven aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, elegant and focused, without quite the integration of the other efforts, it should evolve nicely through 2019. Drink 2014-2019. This is a great lineup by Chad Melville. Neutral oak, no SO2 until racking, varying degrees of whole cluster, native yeasts and a very cold cellar are the name of the game here and these are have individual, unique profiles.
