The new incarnation of the 2013 Vico, with grapes from the Ponferrada zone where the soils are rich in slate, is fermented in foudre; it is very aromatic and balsamic, with notes of incense and spices. It is a bit tight and has great acidity, even a little citric - this zone is definitively different. There's great tension here. 3,400 bottles produced.

I believe the 2012 Vico has changed from previous vintages, as now it is a cuvée with grapes from the Ponferrada zone fermented in foudre with 100% full clusters without temperature control and with one year aging in barrique. It is a very aromatic, floral and fresh red, from higher altitude vineyards -compared with Valtuille- which seem to give the wines good freshness and a fine, silky texture, really approachable and easy to drink.

Black cherry, cola, licorice and toasty notes mingle in this round red. Light tannins and gentle acidity lend this a plush texture, but the floral finish stays fresh. Drink now through 2017. 62 cases made.??–TM??Region: Spain / Bierzo Select to Add
