The 2005 JAEN QUINTA DAS MAIAS is, says owner Luis Lourenco, the best Jaen around. With a grin, he then admits that there are hardly any 100% Jaens made. That is perhaps regrettable considering how well this one shows. It opens soft and seductive but there is a tannic bite on the end. Elegant and persistent, it delivers delicious red fruit flavors to the finish and has a velvety texture. Drink now-2014. Owner Luis Lourenco is the genial owner of this well known estate. Talented winemaker Rui Reguina helps things along as well. I think this estate is going to get better and better. Note that Luis bought Quinta das Maias in 1997.
