The Prunotto 2018 Nizza Riserva Costamiòle is a ripe and soft wine with medium-dark color saturation and notable power. Black cherry confit, baked plum and rum raisin sit heavy on the bouquet. This Barbera shows medium length and a lower threshold of acidity and freshness compared to many of its peers. These qualities make the bottle best suited for near-term drinking.

The 2005 Barbera D’Asti Costamiole reveals plenty of definition in its red fruit, minerals and flowers, all of which come together in the linear, focused style that is typical of the Barberas from Asti. A clean, refreshing finish rounds out the wine nicely. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. I was very impressed with the wines I tasted from Prunotto this year.
