A blend of Barbera and Syrah, the 2014 Monferrato Mompertone is a balanced wine that presents a nicely unified front. The Syrah gives the wine a sense of grounding and texture; the Barbera adds bright personality. It roots the wine in a sense of place. The 2014 vintage was not an easy one, and this wine shows less mouthfeel intensity and persistence as a result. In fact, the finish is short. But it offers plenty of food-friendly qualities and a cheerful disposition nonetheless.
