Part of the terroir range, Clos del Portal, the 2015 Negre de Negres has notes of iron and fresh blood, perfectly ripe fruit without excess and a medium-bodied and balanced palate with fine tannins and good acidity. It's a blend of mostly Garnacha, Cari?ena and Syrah aged in used oak foudres and oak barrels for 12 months. 23,850 bottles were filled in September 2016.

The 2014 Negre de Negres is a noir de noirs (that's literally its name in Catalan language). It is a blend of Garnacha, Cari?ena, Syrah and other varieties with a smoky nose where the meaty character of the Syrah seems to dominate. There are also some floral aromas and hints of rustic elegance. The palate is medium to full-bodied with some dusty tannins. A red of character. There are 25,580 bottles produced.

I tasted two vintages of the blended, entry-level red including this 2013 Negre de Negres. It is meaty with aromas of beef blood and a hint of iron, licorice and fountain pen ink, with very ripe flavors, a soft texture and moderate acidity. 21,663 bottles produced.

Called "noir de noirs" in Catalan because it's a blend of different red grapes (including Garnacha, Cari?ena and Syrah), the 2012 Negre de Negres is produced with estate grapes form the Clos del Portal property between the villages of Lloar and Bellmunt. Fermentation was in stainless steel with natural yeasts after which the wine was raised in large French oak barrels for one year. The Cari?ena and Syrah seem to dominate the nose, giving it a nice seriousness and rusticity. The palate shows more the effect of the oak and might still need a bit more time. Medium to full-bodied, with balanced acidity and a finish that is quite long. Its not too powerful for the vintage. 20,908 bottles.
