Matured in 20% new French oak for 11 months, the 2010 Pinot Noir has a ripe, generous bouquet of fresh strawberry, bilberry and red cherry notes that soars from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with bold tannins that house the oaky red-berry fruit. Indeed, the finish exhibits a tad excessive wood at the moment, although that should integrate with bottle age. Raised in 20% new wood for 11 months, the 2009 Pinot Noir is smudged on the nose with baked red cherry and soy aromas. The palate is crisp and ripe on the entry with touches of red currant and wild strawberry, leading to a poised finish with good length, if not great complexity. Drink now. Neurosurgeon Dr. Paul Cluver owns the eponymous 2,500-hectare estate in Elgin, of which 90-hectares are under vine. It is a family affair. Winemaker Andreas Burger (recently elected to the prestigious Cape Winemakers Guild) is married to daughter and financial director, Inge Cluver.
