This comes mostly from the Wolf vineyard with some fruit from the Middle Ranch vineyard. The 2017 Edna Valley Chardonnay opens with wonderful aromas of honeycomb, orange blossoms, saline, crushed shell and loads of baked apple and quince with an earthy undercurrent. The palate is medium-bodied, satiny and intense, with seamless freshness on the finish, which lingers with honeyed notions.

"This used to be a single-vineyard wine," winemaker Jeffrey Patterson says of the Edna Valley Chardonnay. "In 2016, 40% of the fruit came from the Wolf vineyard and 60% from vineyards in the middle of Edna Valley. We will be back with the Wolf vineyard in 2018," he explains, so expect to see the Wolf Vineyard Chardonnay bottled on its own again from that vintage. The 2016 Edna Valley Chardonnay is scented of baked Red Delicious apple, quince and red pear with dried flowers, lemon cream, stone, hints of clover honey, hay and peach fruit at the core. Medium-bodied, it has a good core of savory flavor layers and great juicy acidity, finishing long. 7,097 cases produced.

More tropical than the Santa Cruz Mountains release, with notes of pineapple, cream corn, white flowers and mint, the 2014 Edna Valley Chardonnay is medium-bodied, supple, pure and polished on the palate, with gorgeous fruit. I don't think it will make old bones, but it's a beautiful wine that will drink nicely for 3-4 years.

The 2000 Chardonnay Edna Valley is a medium-weight, tropical fruit-scented and flavored offering with adequate acidity, little depth, and copious quantities of pure, ripe flavors. Enjoy it over the next 12-18 months. Tel. (408) 867-5832

Mount Eden's 1990 Santa Barbara offering exhibits attractive viscosity, plenty of superripe tropical fruit, full body, and a long, plump finish. Drink it over the next year.
