The 2005 Proprietary White exhibits complex melony, honeysuckle, and waxy notes, medium to full body, and excellent acidity and freshness. It is a sensational dry white that must be tasted to be believed. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. This is one of the most distinctive little treasures in California. A tiny, 9.5-acre vineyard (5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Sauvignon Blanc) is planted on some of California’s most expensive real estate, the sloping hillsides composed of limestone and sandstone in Bel Air. This is the visionary project of Ruth and Tom Jones, who founded this vineyard in 1978, and had their first commercial vintage in 1989. Approximately twenty years ago I walked the vineyard with Tom Jones. It was gorgeous then, and I can only imagine its beauty today. Jones has brought in St.-Emilion’s wine guru, Dr. Alain Raynaud, as a consultant, and all of the clonal material has come from choice sites, most from David Abreu’s field selections in Napa. These are serious wines made with a French orientation. The reds are very St.-Julien-like, and the whites (100% Sauvignon Blanc) are sensational efforts reminiscent of a top white Bordeaux.Tel.
