The 2004 Chortais (the name referencing the cove on Mercouri Estate) is a blend of Mavrodaphne and Corinthiaki, in a 500ml bottle, semi-sun dried. The blend is aged in cask for 5 years. The first attack combines some brightness with a sugary finish, but things change quite a bit as it airs out. It remains quite succulent and sunny, with a sweet finish, but it also shows some power, some tannins that pop up. Its mid-palate is quite elegant, not at all jammy. It is hard to resist, with a hint of baked apple and just a little bit of a steely note on the finish as it airs out and the sugary notes begin to fade. These wines can age quite some time, but their character can certainly change as they do. Be reasonably conservative and see where they are when they get there. Drink now-2021. There were 1,497 bottles produced.Importer: Athenee Importers & Distributors LTD., Hempstead, NY; tel. (516) 505-4800
