The 2007 Reserva is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah, which seems to be fully mature, with a developed color and a complex nose combining aromas of leather, cured meats, smoke, paprika and cold tea with earthy tones intermixed with ripe plums and a herbal touch. The palate is medium-bodied, with good freshness, fine, resolved tannins and good length. A very good Bordeaux blend that manages to keep its origins. Drink now-2018. The 2005 Reserva is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Syrah that spent 14 months in seasoned French and American oak before bottling without filtration. Notions of cedar, leather, violets, cinnamon, a hint of balsamic, and cassis compose the nose of this savory, ripe, smooth-textured, elegant effort. It will blossom over the next 2-3 years and deliver enjoyment through 2020. Abadal’s two white offerings do not merit recommendations but the reds are all first-class. Fragrant aromas of smoke, cassis, kirsch, and black cherry are followed by a supple, forward, friendly wine that has a bit more structure than the Crianza.
