The Masciarelli 2018 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (in a screw-cap bottle) is primary and bright in personality with dark cherry and plum. The wine is short and simple overall, but you get enough fruit texture and just enough mild structure to pair with a classic burger and fries. The wine ends on a tart or slightly bitter note that could counter the fat in those foods.

Here's an easy-drinking red wine to pair with pork chops or Italian sausages, layered with grilled onions and bell peppers. The 2017 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a mid-weight wine with enough primary fruit and fresh blackberry to keep the palate refreshed. No oak is used. The wine shows mild structure, but the upside is all the plump fruit you get at the core. This is one of those easy wines you pull out of the pantry and pour a glass as you are cooking up dinner.
