This shows aromas of spiced cherries, dried orange peel, cardamom and bark. Medium-bodied with round, velvety tannins that have chalky texture. Dry and zesty at the end. Attractive now, but better in a year or two.

A succulent red, with a mix of tar, tobacco and eucalyptus aromas and flavors shading cherry and raspberry fruit. Builds in volume through the long finish. While this shows a solid spine of tannins, it feels balanced and resonant overall. The 2016 Barbaresco Tradizione moves over the palate with direct and silky intensity. Along the way, the wine imparts delicate tones of forest berry, wild cherry and rose hip. There are subtle hints of tar, button mushroom and tilled earth at the back. However, what I noticed most are the bright menthol notes that you get as the wine warms in the glass. This is a simple and easy-drinking Barbaresco to pair with your favorite pasta dishes. The wine is aged in botte grande only. Production is ample at 80,000 bottles made.

You can recognize the 2015 Barbaresco Tradizione by its old fashion-looking label and the producer name that is recorded here as Antiche Cantine dei Marchesi di Barolo. This vintage offers extra layers of plumpness and sweetness that you can taste in the ripe fruit that is so generously put on display. The fruit is dark and succulent with black cherry and wild blackberry on the front line. Background tones include tar, smoke and spice. This wine only ages in botte grande. Some 80,000 bottles were made.

The 2014 Barbaresco Tradizione is a nicely centered wine that offers a solid array of ripe fruit flavors with cherry and red currant in pole position. As I have discovered with other Barbaresco wines from 2014, the fruit is surprisingly opulent and soft considering the below average temperatures that persisted throughout the summer season. Those plump characteristics are followed by moderate touches of spice, tar and smoke.
