The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes reveals aromas of raspberries, berries and somewhat planky new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, tangy palate with good depth at the core and a penetrating but somewhat overtly vanillin- and lactone-inflected finish. If it weren't for the cooperage, this would score higher.

An austere, chewy red, featuring black cherry and black currant fruit, matched to a matrix of tannins. Tips toward the dry side for now, with a chalky feel. Best from 2021 through 2035. 10 cases imported.??–BS??Region: France / Burgundy / Chambolle-Musigny Select to Add

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes had already been racked and was taken from tank. It has a composed, attractive bouquet with wild strawberry, raspberry preserve and hints of vanilla pod, the oak here nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with well-integrated new oak (50%) and a persuasive, harmonious and quite structured finish with black cherry and raspberry coulis on the finish. Good job.

The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes has a clean and precise bouquet with redcurrant, black cherries and violet aromas, a bit of swagger here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, chewy in the mouth, a little coarse perhaps, but I suspect it will smooth out in bottle.
