The 2019 Torgiano Torre di Giano Vigna Il Pino is a blend of Trebbiano, Vermentino and Grechetto with fruit from a vineyard site located below the Lungarotti guesthouse. There once was a huge, ancient pine tree nearby, but sadly, in 2020 it was struck by lightning and died. The wine eventually reveals orange and passion fruit with peach and honey. But it takes a little while to get there because it is rather timid aromatically speaking, especially the first few minutes.

I'm not sure this is the 2018 because the vintage was not written on the bottle, but it was written on the cork, so I'm going with that. A blend of Vermentino, Grechetto and Trebbiano fermented and aged in oak, the Lungarotti 2018 Torgiano Torre di Giano Vigna Il Pino brings nice freshness with lots of citrus and some lemon candy too. You'll pick up on some Golden Delicious apple, honey and pear. This is a mid-weight white with a creamy texture. There is also faint toast, spice and ash. Some 10,500 bottles were made.

I had already reviewed this blend of 50% Trebbiano, 30% Vermentino and 20% Grechetto and am happy to come back to the wine now. The Lungarotti 2015 Torgiano Torre di Giano Vigna Il Pino is a nicely enriched and creamy white wine that delivers terrific balance and a broad range of aromas that span from orchard fruit and citrus to yellow rose and lightly toasted spice. The wine's natural richness and density would make it a great partner to buttered lobster or prawns. I like this tasting more than the last time.

This vineyard-designate blend of Trebbiano and Grechetto opens with a luminous golden color and elegant aromas of stone fruit, citrus, Golden Delicious apple and mature pear. There’s a pretty hint of vanilla and almond butter at the back.——M.L.(3/1/2012)—— 89
