Coming all from granite soils, completely destemmed and aged 14 months in barrels, the 2013 St Joseph Cuvée Prestige Caroline is a classic northern Rhone Syrah that has ample red and black fruits, olive tapenade and spiced meat-like aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, perfumed and rounded with a hard to resist style on the palate that keeps you coming back to the glass, drink this solid, high quality Syrah over the coming 8-9 years.

Pretty and elegant, the 2011 Saint Joseph Caroline exhibits plenty of juicy berry fruit, spice-box, licorice and underbrush in its delicious, pure and medium-bodied profile. The most backward and tannic offering is the 2006 St.-Joseph Cuvee Prestige de Caroline. Sweet black cherry, black currant, licorice, bouquet garni, and subtle spicy wood aromas are followed by an attractive, medium to full-bodied wine with light to moderate tannin. It has the potential to be outstanding after a few more years of bottle age. Domaine Louis Cheze, an excellent estate in St.-Joseph, produces three cuvees, all of which merit attention. The 2005 St.-Joseph Cuvee Prestige de Caroline exhibits plenty of pepper, roasted herb, olive, black cherry, and strawberry characteristics in a medium-bodied, smooth style. The tannins are noticeable, but not intrusive. No known American importer.
