The 2016 Barbera d'Alba Surì di Mù shows plump fruit aromas with dried cherry and blackberry preserves at the front. The wine is round and rich, making it a perfect pairing partner to easy pasta dishes with a spot of sweetness in the form of tomato or cream sauce. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged in French barrique for 15 months. Some 8,200 bottles were produced.

The 2015 Barbera d'Alba Surì di Mù is super thick and concentrated, but it's weighed down by awkward ripeness and disjointed oak tones and maybe a touch of Graham cracker. The bouquet is earthy with button mushroom and bramble.

The 2013 Barbera d'Alba Surì di Mù is very earthy, with lots of tobacco, dark fruit, exotic spice and teriyaki smoke. This is a simple, no-fuss red wine to pair with lasagna or ravioli stuffed with minced meat.

The 2012 Barbera d'Alba Surì di Mù is a powerful but balanced Barbera that opens to a dark color and consistency. The bouquet presents vinous notes of raw cherry fruit, blackcurrant and sweet baking spice. Fruit is sourced from a vineyard in La Morra and the wine sees 15 months of new oak. The wine does not have the marked acidity that you get from the grape and presents a soft and velvety texture instead.

The 2010 Barbera d’Alba Suri di Mu sees 15 months of new French oak and does a great job of relegating those wood-driven notes of spice and tobacco an unobtrusive supporting role. Overall, it shows a surprisingly elegant and feminine side with explosive berry fruit and pressed red rose. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. Founded in 1914, Icardi is located between the Langhe and Monferrato regions and is run by brother and sister team Claudio and Mariagrazia Icardi.
