The 2009 Oscar Semmler Shiraz was aged 21 months in new and one-year-old French hogsheads. Deep garnet-purple colored, it has ripe blueberry and mulberry notes over scents of earth, truffles, game plus hints of toast and soy. Taut, muscular and medium to full bodied in the mouth, it is well structured with a firm level of grainy tannins and crisp acidity. The finish is long, layered and savory. It’s still very youthful and though approachable now, should drink best 2014 to 2024+. Importer: Baum Wine Imports, Aurora, CO.

Very deep garnet-purple in color, 2008 Oscar Semmler Shiraz has intense aromas of blackberry, black cherry, marmite and yeast with a complex undercurrent of lavender, underbrush, damp loam and game notes. Full bodied, rich and tight-knit, it has firm, wonderfully fine and ripe tannins plus refreshing acid lingering into the long finish. A sturdy style, with rich cherry and anise flavors, hinting at toast and espresso as the finish persists. Remains lively and focused, nicely wrapped with mildly grippy tannins. The purple/black 2006 Oscar Semmler Shiraz is a blend of the finest parcels from the St. Jakobi vineyard and was barrel-fermented and aged in French oak for 22 months. It offers up a full-throttle perfume of pain grille, pencil lead, truffle, espresso, wild blueberry, and blackberry. Plush on the palate, ripe and surprisingly forward, this succulent Shiraz has the balance to blossom for another 4-6 years. Drink it from 2013 to 2026.
