The finest wines include the 2005 Syrah Star Lane Vineyard. Superb cassis, plum, fig, meat juice, and roasted herb characteristics are present in this full-bodied effort. Admirable purity, a multilayered mouthfeel, and an enormous finish with huge glycerin, alcohol, and fruit suggest this beauty will drink well for 8-10 years. These are all blockbuster-flavored and sized wines, so be forewarned if you are looking for more restrained, delicate reds. Cut from the same cloth as the Rodney Shull is the elegant, complex 2004 Syrah Star Lane Vineyard. An inky/blue/purple color is accompanied by aromas of creme de cassis, black cherry jam, smoke, licorice, and meat. This deep, medium to full-bodied, impressively endowed, aromatically complex effort will offer enjoyable drinking over the next 8-10 years. This is an impeccably well-made, big wine. Restrained, but no shy wine is the 2002 Syrah Star Lane Vineyard (15.6% alcohol). Revealing the blueberry/blackberry fruit spectrum interwoven with espresso roast and smoky wood characteristics, this full-bodied, rich, exotic, low acid effort shows more definition and tannin than its siblings, and will age well for 8-10 years.
