With fruit from high elevation vineyards, the Cantina Tramin 2021 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Moriz is a tight and linear wine with extreme focus on white fruit, pear and wild mountain flower. Those aromas are backed by a fresh sense of dryness and minerality that gives this wine enormous appeal with any vegetarian dish or the exotic food favors of Thailand or Southeast Asia. Production is 65,000 bottles, and the wine sees a simple aging of five months in stainless steel. This is a terrific bargain.

The Cantina Tramin 2020 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Moriz is a relatively new entry in my annual tasting calendar and is a wine I'd encourage readers to try, especially if they are enamored with the crispness and freshness that comes so naturally to Italian Pinot Bianco. There is a spicy element to the wine with crisp apple and white licorice, but you also get crushed mineral and drying limestone that would be lovely with fried whole-belly clams and a green side salad. The best news is the terrific value you get with Moriz in this release of 70,000 bottles.

The Cantina Tramin 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Moriz is another terrific entry-level wine from Northern Italy. You simply can't get this level of quality and freshness, especially where white wines are concerned. The signature grape of Alto Adige is Pinot Bianco, and you get pristine aromas of peach, quince and white melon here. Those fruity tones are followed by crushed stone, saffron and almond. This wine is aged in steel tank with a smaller 25% that goes into large oak casks. This helps to develop the mouthfeel of the wine. Some 60,000 bottles were released.
