The 2006 Chardonnay Rae’s was difficult to judge, seeming very tight, with high acidity as well as a structured feel to it. Nevertheless, there are some attractive tropical fruits and minerality behind this Chardonnay, which plays it close to the vest. The 2004 Chardonnay Rae’s Vineyard exhibits beautiful honeyed orange and apple blossom-like fruit, medium body, fine elegance, acidity, and minerality, and enough fruit for balance. Tel. (805) 937-8091

The most limited cuvee here, the 2001 Chardonnay Rae’s Vineyard, merited the highest score (isn’t that always the way?). This mineral-laced offering displays heady, leesy notes along with buttered citrus and tropical fruits. A striking delineation in addition to a beautifully-textured mouthfeel give this elegant yet flavorful Chardonnay considerable singularity and appeal. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years. Tel.
