The 1994 Caitlin's Selection (60% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon) reveals a dark garnet color, a distinctive, complex, tobacco and cedar-scented nose, sweet, round, rich, concentrated flavors, medium to full body, and a velvety texture. This is the most forward, complex, and drinkable of the four Callaghan offerings reviewed in this segment. I am convinced that if this wine were put in a blind tasting it could easily pass for a top class St.-Emilion. It should drink well for 7-8 years.As I have said so many times in the past, this is one of the most interesting wineries in America. One would never suspect that in Arizona, especially southern Arizona, not far from the Mexican border as well as the historic cowboy town of Tombstone, there would be vineyards making wines as interesting and distinctive as those from Callaghan Vineyards.
