The 2008 Idrias Abiego is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo aged in oak for 6 months. Fragrant mineral, spice, lavender, licorice, and black cherry aromas inform the nose of this savory, structured, nicely proportioned red. The 2007 Idrias Abiego, a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 20% Tempranillo, was aged for 6 months in new oak. Dark ruby colored, it yields a pleasant perfume of spice box, cassis, violets, and black currant. Racy and elegant on the palate, it has ample spicy fruit, good balance, and a silky finish. Although Monastrell has been the principal variety planted, the 2004 Idrias Abiego is a blend of 40% Tempranillo, 40% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is light ruby in color with a fruity, almost bubble gum, perfume reminiscent of (good quality) Beaujolais. The forward fruit is ripe, crunchy and ideal for a picnic.
