The 2007 Mas 7 was produced from organically grown grapes and is a blend of 50% Garnacha, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Merlot aged 12 months in French oak. It reveals a nose of slate/mineral, lavender, and roasted cherry compote. Made in a relatively forward style, it has a smooth texture, just a bit of structure, and ripe, savory flavors. Drink it over the next 8 years. Bodegas Pinord is a family-owned estate dating back more than 150 years. The existing winery and cellar was constructed in 1942 and has a capacity of over 5,000,000 bottles. Opens with brambly, edgy plum aromas and stays edgy in the mouth, with fresh but mildly tart raspberry flavors. Lots of kick and life, but not a lot of elegance or complexity. Finishes with vanilla and a lashing of palpable oak.——M.S.(11/1/2009)—— 85

The 2005 +7 is 50% Garnacha, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Syrah aged for 12 months in new French and American oak. It exhibits a slightly baked, mineral, black cherry, and black currant bouquet. This leads to a smooth-textured, chewy, ripe wine with plenty of spicy black fruits, good depth, some concealed tannin, and a medium-long finish.
