The 2011 Barbaresco Mantico stands out for its offbeat aromas that start with wild berry and end with Pecorino cheese rind. You don't often find that pungent tone with the decidedly delicate Nebbiolo grape. The wine offers a thick and penetrating mouthfeel with chewy texture and plump cherry richness. I'd commit to a medium-term drinking window, but the wine should smooth out with a few more years of cellar aging.

A lean, tightly wound red, with a core of cherry, berry, anise and tar flavors, matched to a vibrant structure.
