The 2007 Barrel Select Syrah (100%) ups the ante in aromatic complexity and richness on the palate. It was aged for 26 months in new, predominantly French oak providing the wine with a silky texture and suave personality. This full-throttle Syrah will offer prime drinking through 2023 if not longer. Annette Bergevin and Amber Lane continue to turn out excellent wines at very fair prices from their Walla Walla-based winery. The current releases, particularly the Syrah cuvees, appear to be their best wines to date. The Calico wines are always terrific values and the new releases are no exception.Tel. The 2006 Syrah Barrel Select (100% Syrah) is a selection of the best barrels in the cellar with the wine aged for 20 months in new French oak prior to bottling without fining or filtration. The nose reveals toasty oak, earth notes, smoke, lavender, bacon, and blueberry. Plush, bordering on voluptuous on the palate, it has superior depth of flavor, loads of spicy dark fruit, excellent balance, and 5-7 years of aging potential. It should be at its best from 2015 to 2026. Bergevin Lane, located in Walla Walla, continues to make impressive wines at a range of price points. These three value wines are first-class.Tel. The 2005 Syrah Barrel Select is 100% varietal aged for 15 months in 100% new French oak. An expressive perfume of game, bacon, and sausage is alluring. Firm on entry, the wine has gobs of fruit, savory flavors, superb depth and concentration and a lengthy finish, Give it 3-4 years in the cellar and drink it from 2012 to 2025.
