The 2012 Flor d'Englora Garnacha is a sweet and grapey version of Garnacha with pleasant red fruit flavors and aromas and some spicy notes. A straightforward Garnacha. Drink now. The 2011 Flor de Englora “Garnatxa” comes from 35-year-old vines and sees no new oak. It has a ripe dark plum and cranberry-scented bouquet that is quite dense and powerful, with touches of undergrowth emerging with aeration. The palate is crisp and animated on the entry with a citric thread of acidity interwoven through a ripe cranberry, pomegranate and wild strawberry fruit profile. The tannins are edgy and brittle, lending fine tension, while the finish is a little abrupt, but by then you are already satisfied. This is a very fine, natural Montsant red. Drink now-2016. Baronia del Montsant is a three-hectare estate in Cornudella de Montsant belonging to Carlos Macias and Xavier Canals. Celler Baronia del Montsant’s 2009 Flor d’Englora Garnatxa is 67% Garnacha and 33% Carinena fermented and aged in stainless steel. Crimson-colored, it displays a nose of pencil lead, mineral, rose petal, Asian spices, and black cherry. The 2006 Flor de Englora is a candidate for best red wine value in my Spanish tastings. It is a blend of 63% Garnacha, 32% Carinena, and the balance Syrah and Merlot aged in stainless steel. Purple-colored, it offers a captivating bouquet of mineral, black cherry, and black raspberry. This is followed by a plush, rich, layered wine with gobs of sweet fruit and no hard edges.
