The 2011 Flor d'Englora Roure is a 50/50 blend of Garnacha and Carinena with five months’ aging in oak barrels. The oak aromas are quite dominant with notes of vanilla, toast and smoke over a core of red and black fruit, and a juicy, fruit-driven palate with good acidity and spicy flavors in the aftertaste. The 2010 Flor de Englora “Roure” is a blend of 35+-year-old Garnacha and 25-year-old Carinena fermented in stainless steel and aged 70% in Allier and Troncais oak and 30% in Tennessee barrels. It has a very lifted, pure bouquet of raspberry and wild strawberry fruit interlaced with vanilla-y new oak that is finely enmeshed. The palate is medium-bodied and very sensual on the entry, although I feel that the oak is speaking louder than the fruit. I probably prefer the tension on the un-oaked “Garnatxa,” but still, it has impressive harmony and length. Drink now-2016. The 2010 Flor de Englora Roure is a blend of predominantly Garnacha and Carinena with a bit of Syrah, Merlot, and Tempranillo added to the mix. It is darker in color along with more structure in a leaner, racier style. It has enough balance to drink well for 5-6 years. It, too, is an excellent value. The 2009 Flor d’Englora Roure is a blend of 63% Garnacha, 32% Carinena, and the balance Syrah, Merlot and Tempranillo aged in 25% new barriques (the first oak treatment for this cuvee). Dark ruby-colored, it exhibits a bouquet of smoke, mineral, espresso, Asian spices, black cherry, and plum.
