Baldacci’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Brenda’s Vineyard takes hold of the palate and never lets up. Super-ripe blackberries, cassis, mint and incense all flesh out as this voluptuous wine takes shape in the glass. The 2010 is rich to the point of being decadent, but all the elements are very nicely balanced. Sweet, silky tannins frame the huge, dramatic finish. The combination of Stags’ Leap purity and the wine’s decidedly extroverted personality is highly attractive. The 2010 remains quite powerful and youthful, but it should start to soften up a bit over the next few years and drink well for another decade or so beyond that. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Tel. The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Brenda’s Vineyard is a bit more centered and poised than the 2010, but it is also much less expressive. Still, it is impossible not to admire the wine’s structure, power and sheer personality. Hints of sweet tobacco, cedar, spices and raspberry jam flow through to the floral-infused finish. The 2009 doesn’t quite have the density of the 2010, but they are both striking wines. Today my impression is that the 2009 will also mature faster than its younger sibling, but the wine’s balance is impeccable from start to finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Tel. (707) 944-9261
