The dense ruby/purple-colored 2001 Syrah Estate offers a superbly complex nose of smoke, cassis, blackberries, underbrush, and leather. Elegant, with authoritative flavors, medium to full body, and a supple texture, it is meant to be drunk over the next 6-7 years. Tel. (805) 686-9604

The first estate-labelled Syrah off this fine property is eccentric. It has a Porty aroma with underlying currents of sweet cured tobacco, and while it is bone dry, it has a hot mouthfeel that’s thin in fruit, leaving the alcohol and tannins front and center.
