A true blockbuster, the 2013 Syrah Upslope is the darkest colored of all the Syrahs (there’s 17% Petite Sirah in the blend, so that no doubt adds color) and was fermented with 25% whole cluster and spent 22 months in 50% new French oak. This is always a mix of vineyards and a cellar selection intended to be the top Syrah of the estate. Offering incredible notes of blackberries, smoked meats, vanilla bean, licorice and pepper, this beauty is full-bodied, uber concentrated, with awesome purity and ripe tannin. Despite the overall size and girth here, it stays light and elegant on the palate, with an inherent elegance and seamlessness that keeps it a joy to drink. Drink it anytime over the coming 10-15 years.
