The 1991 Syrah-Bien Nacido Reserve is an explosively rich, super-concentrated, black/purple-colored wine. A huge nose of tobacco, pepper, cassis, and herbs is followed by a wine with surprisingly soft tannins, penetrating richness, and a long, tannic, spicy finish. It is a terrific Syrah for drinking over the next decade.The wines of Bob Lindquist, the owner/winemaker of Qupe, continue to go from strength to strength. His current offerings are the best he has yet produced. This is a winery dedicated to the rich, bold personalities of Rhone Valley varietals.
