Another strikingly beautiful wine, the 2010 Pinot Noir Estate Sandy's possesses fabulous depth and purity, not to mention tremendous overall balance. The Sandy's is perhaps a touch more perfumed and fragrant than Carrie-s, but both wines are utterly delicious. There is an intensity and fleshiness in the Sandy's that is simply irresistible. The Sandy's was fermented with one-third whole clusters, with a clonal composition made up principally of Calera, 114, 459 and Merry Edwards. This is a terrific effort from Melville and Greg Brewer. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018.
Longtime winemaker Greg Brewer has done a great job with these new releases. Although there are a number of highlights here, it is the Pinots that truly shine in 2010. I also tasted the 2010 Chardonnay Estate, but it was completely closed down and in no mood to be evaluated, so I will have to wait for another opportunity to get a better read.
