This wine was released ten years after the harvest. The 2008 Carmignano Villa di Capezzana is a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon (aged in tonneaux for 12 months). Looking back in the archive for the original review of this wine, it showed brilliant zest and energy. More than a decade later, that shiny brightness is still intact. Dried berry nuances are followed by tar, smoke and old spice. Fresh acidity washes in at the rear. Since 2006, this estate has put aside 3,000 bottles of this wine for late release. This was done to celebrate the 300-year anniversary of the Carmignano wine appellation. Today, a wine like this gives us an important understanding of the aging potential of this historic Tuscan red.

Fresh, with vivid acidity pumping the black cherry, currant and earth flavors. A hint of tar slows this down slightly on the dry, tannic finish. Drink now through 2018. 7,200 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.??–BS??Region: Italy / Carmignano Select to Add
