Ruby-red. Highly perfumed smoke- and spice-tinged aromas of fresh cherry and dark berries, with notes of licorice and floral oils building in the glass. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavors accented by allspice and mocha. Dusty tannins come in slowly on a very long, smoky finish that strongly repeats the dark berry and licorice notes. I suspect that this wine will be accessible earlier than most past vintages of this bottling.
