Boscarelli's 1988 Vino da Tavola (100% Sangiovese, aged in small oak casks) is an excruciatingly backward, dense, full-bodied, muscular wine with nearly an excess of tannin. The wine's backwardness and toughness are cause for concern, but there is so much ripe fruit crammed into this wine that it appears to be a potential candidate for a graceful evolution - if the tannin melts away before the fruit. It is a big, chewy, rich wine offering up plenty of tobacco, roasted herbs, leather, and curranty/cherry fruit. Purchase it only if you can give it 3-4 years of cellaring.
