The 2004 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as a beautiful, sweet bouquet of sandalwood, white chocolate, crushed pepper, black raspberries, black currants, garrigue, and spicy oak. This is a seriously rich wine that displays a good underpinning of acidity, which provides a mineral-like character. It should drink well for 7-8 years. The alcohol levels in the 2004 Zinfandels range between 15.5% and 16.5%, but much to Mike Officer’s credit, there is no trace of hotness in these wines. Readers should not hesitate to get on Carlisle’s mailing list before the world discovers what compelling beverages are being produced here.
